The benefits of traditional wooden toys aren’t just a nostalgic look back to the days of our own childhood; there are many more advanced reasons that benefit your young ones directly. This article explores and helps to explain the benefits of bringing your young ones up playing with traditional toys rather than the more favoured, modern toys.

Toys
Traditional favourites for example wooden toys help children to grow their minds and imagination, and encourage creative play in kids. So often modern toys are exact models of cars, planes and other exciting vehicles, however these exact models by definition leave little for the imagination. Branded toy memorabilia often servers no purpose in play rather than to allow the children to emulate their favourite TV characters and inspire play that is a mix of copying, repetition and again leaves little for the creative mind.

A toy box that features a mix of traditional toys is a lot more likely to inspire creative play, the innovations and skills which help a child to develop and learn to enjoy playing, to enjoy the education and experience with using such toys. Many educational wooden toys help children to construct critical lateral thinking and problem solving skills and improve fine motor skills.

Research also signifies that the children appreciate the environment they are in more as a result; as opposed to using loader, noisier and noise making toys to make an environment of action, of war, emergency as well as other such play scenarios, the kids were found to create the weather and sound effects inside their head, and keep the calm and relaxation in the room still. In other words, traditional wooden toys assist in keeping the child relaxed and quiet, while having fun and playing within the true child spirit that people all love to see.

Benefits are not only limited to the enjoyment in the toys, the health and safety benefits is not ignored. Wooden toys are much safer than plastic toys, with fewer smaller parts, and the parts are more durable, less likely to break or be chewed.

Children will forever favour putting their favourite things inside their mouth, and traditional toys made from natural materials are less toxic compared to chemical rich painted plastics and metals that lots of modern toys are made from. They have no electric parts, and so are made tougher, they want no batteries, they don’t leak, they do not require electricity, and are also kinder to our planet at the same time.

Well made traditional toys use natural woods and conventional methods to shape and colour the toys, with non-toxic paints, and shaped wood that doesn’t splinter easily, or break. Excellent woods are hard to break, but still softer contact than hard metals and tough plastics, making for the ultimate material for toys; low impact bumps and accident, but the durability to continue for generations.

The lastability of traditional wooden toys could very well be the biggest and often most misunderstood characteristic; whereas the more modern, trend related toys appear and disappear with the trends, in addition to their lifetime as toys is shorter, traditional toys may be passed down to siblings and from one generation to another.
